Artist Statement

Just an update:
We are working on artist statements in class and I've never done anything as hard as this. For anyone who has ever attempted to write one, you know how this is. I have to fit everything about my photography into one paragraph. That paragraph will show anyone reading it who I am as a photographer, and just that. I can't stand there to explain every photo. This process is terrifying, inspiring, and confusing as ever.

I should have taken the legs...

So I found these legs in a dumpster in Williamsburgh and I am kicking myself for not just taking them back on the subway with me.

The Yeti

Saw this in the window of a store in Williamsburgh.

Self Portrait: Body Image

I have been working around the idea of body image for my video assignment, so I decided to inspire myself by taking self portraits of parts of me that I don't necessarily like, but I know I'm still beautiful.

Self Portraits are really difficult. I had so much trouble with this assignment, because I'm my biggest critic, I am very critical of not only the photo, but how I look as well.

Kicked out of H&M?

Some mannequins in H&M. Technically you're not supposed to take pictures in stores but I was being sneaky. Hopefully they won't see this photo and kick me out of H&M forever.

Fireworks

It says a lot about humanity when we get excited for shiny, sparkly, and colorful lights in the sky. I love it.

Fourth of July

I just enjoy this photo, that's all.

4th of July Fireworks

Thanks to my roommate Addison who pointed out this adorable little boy on his fathers' shoulders. His reactions to the fireworks were absolutely contagious

Ground Zero: Independence

"You can be sure that the American Spirit will prevail after this tragedy" -Colin Powell

Ground Zero: Independence

We had an "Independence" inspired photo shoot. When I think of independence I think of a strong community. Even though we had this tragic event happen to our country, we can still be strong enough to start to rebuild and grow from it. As I was walking around I felt extremely patriotic, so it was perfect to do this on July 4th.

Central Park

New York skyline, of course I need one of these on my blog.

Central Park

We went to central park to work on some landscape photography.

New York Street Photography

And last, but certainly not least, I couldn't help but to include this one. I found myself in Madison Sq Park and this squirrel was eating a peanut. Cutest thing ever.

New York Street Photography

This may be my favorite of the walk. I love how the sun hitting a puddle on a dirty curb can still be so beautiful. Only in New York.

New York Street Photography

I checked out a book of new york street photography and it inspired me just to go take a walk and take pictures on the street of new york. Funny story, I ended up walking a good 15 blocks before I realized how far I was. So here are some of those pictures.

Studying William Eggleston, I challenged myself because I am so used to taking portrait photography, so picking this photographer was out of my comfort zone. Eggleston plays with color in his photos, so I took this medium of color and shaped it into my own personal style. I still enjoy playing with light so I added that aspect into this photo as well.

Welcome!

My Name is Rosie, I am a 17 year old student from State College, PA.

This blog is a photography blog for a specific summer course at Parsons in New York City.

Enjoy my photography, and have a beautiful day.
